Article Marketing And Backlinks

Article marketing is probably the most effective link building
strategy on the World Wide Web. Yet, It is also one that is the
most under used. Most marketers just will not do it. Their
claims vary, saying I'm no writer, I can't think of anything to
say, I'm new and don't know anything!

Let's say the reasons above happen to be true.

They overlook the obvious alternatives.

With everybody and their brother hustling Private Label
Articles on the web for as little as $29.95 for a hundred or
more pre written articles there is no reason you can't pick up
some of these packages, rewrite them and claim them as your
own. You may even find packages for alot less. It's just a
matter of weeding out the junk from the better articles. Making
sure the article content is valid. The return on your initial
investment will be significant in terms of the backlinks you'll
recieve.

A couple of really good PLR article sites that come to mind and
have used myself are http://PushButtonHealth.com and
http://InfoGoRound.com. Once you've been a member and
developed some writing skills you can submit your own articles
to http://InfoGoRound.com which takes care of your monthly
membership fee.

Those backlinks are food for the search engine spyders. You'll
recieve those backlinks to your site by utilizing the main
resource of your article. That being your author bio or
resource box at the bottom of your article. This is what the
search engine spyders feed on. This is where your backlinks
originate.

There are alot of marketers that don't utilize this resource to
its full advantage, myself included. I'd previously been led to
believe that in order to make money writing articles all I
needed to do was write an article and put a link to whatever
affiliate program I was promoting in the resource box and watch
the sales pour in. It wasn't happening. And I wasn't getting any
traffic to my main website. Any and all traffic was going to the
generic affiliate page. Raising their ranking and leaving my
site as a virtual unknown.

The purpose of the article's resource box is to create
backlinks to my main site via the anchor text I use to point to
that site. It is what the search spyders use to categorize,
classify and identify your site. Let me clarify that.

Let's say you've got a Dog Grooming Site and you've written an
article on that Topic. Your resource box should contain anchor
text targeting the keywords you want to be categorized under.
Like so,

course the example above is missing the symbols > <

If you add a resource box similar to the one above with every
article you write and submit to as many article directories as
you can, It will begin to bring traffic in droves, to your main
site.

The rule of thumb here is this: The more sites you have
pointing to your site, The more traffic your going to get from
the search engines. The site with the most backlinks wins.
Meaning the best placement in search results for your given
niche.

Pretty simple, wouldn't you say? More Articles = More Backlinks
= More Traffic!

You'll be able to build a list of targeted subscribers to your
newsletter, make affiliate sales, sign up people to your
membership site or MLM program. Your options will be only
limited by your imagination.

I cannot guarantee if you submit 5 articles to a hundred
directories, you’ll get 500 back links! I can guarantee that if
you do, you'll have more than if you did nothing.

One of the biggest mistakes new home-based business owners make is trying to do everything from square one.

You can rest assured that whatever you are attempting to do or build, it has already been done.

Sure, it probably won't be a mirror image of what you're doing, but it will have many of the same basic ingredients.

The fastest and easiest way to get your business going and growing is by finding others who have already done what you want to do and learning and benefiting from their efforts.

A local business person recently told me he was in the process of building an autoresponder. Of course, this wouldn't be a strange thing to be doing if it was a service he plans to sell, but it has nothing to do with his business!

Instead of investing a few hours to explore those autoresponders already in existence, he is investing well more than a hundred hours trying to build one on his own so he can communicate with his customers.

By conducting only a couple of hours research, he would have discovered a variety of outstanding, affordable autoresponder services that are highly sophisticated and subject to continual upgrading and improvement to keep up with ever-changing technology and consumer needs.

Imagine the kind of business he could have generated for himself if he focused those one hundred plus hours acquiring new customers for his business and expanding and improving on his products and services!

Unfortunately, like him, many new home business owners are still of the employee mindset -- that they have to work relentlessly and do everything alone.

They haven't yet developed the entrepreneurial mindset that understands you have to work smarter, not harder.

Another time-consuming task many new business owners take on is spending hours, even days, trying to design the perfect logo. I'm embarrassed to say I spent DAYS searching the Internet for sample logos, looking for ideas, then sitting and drawing possible logo after logo.

I eventually abandoned the obsession and as soon as I handed the project over to my web designer, I had a new, effective and eye-catching logo within 24 hours.

It was a costly mistake. I had spent so many years working in a support capacity that I didn't know how to make the shift to a leader capacity and delegate the task.

(Even more important, I later realized, having a logo is waaaay down on the priority scale and doesn't even have to be considered during the start-up period.)

As you are starting your business, consider the following tasks and ask yourself if someone else could be doing them while you focus on building:

- designing brochures and marketing material

- creating your web site

- setting up your voice mail and e-mail

- purchasing supplies and equipment

- stuffing envelopes and taking them to the post office, or delivering flyers

- market research

- hooking up your new computer, modem, fax and installing software

- trouble shooting computer problems

- writing articles, reports or white papers

These are not revenue generating activities and if you find them challenging or time-consuming, delegate these tasks to someone else like a family member, co-op student or part-time assistant.

For the more specialized items, seek the input of a mastermind member or business colleague on how they handle those responsibilities. Also, hire or barter with experts in marketing, web design and technology.

Another wheel you don't need to re-invent is that of processes, particularly in the area of marketing.

Marketing may not be your forté, yet it is the most important element of your business, and this is where many new home business owners bury themselves.

The good news is you don't have to develop your marketing process by trial and error.

Commit several days to studying other businesses both in and outside of your industry.

How do they promote themselves? How do they collect leads? How do they convert leads?

In other words, how do they catch the attention of potential customers, get them to express an interest to learn more, and how do they get them to ultimately pull out their wallets and buy?

The quickest and easiest way to create winning processes is to study already successful businesses, then model what they do.

Sign up for their newsletters and request additional information. Let them begin a courtship with you and pay attention to what they're doing. Buy a product or two and see what tools they use to keep inviting you back for more.

This doesn't mean copy them word for word or action by action, but assimilate what works, mould it to your specific business and add the essential ingredient of uniqueness that allows you to stand out from the crowd.

These are just three simple strategies you can start with today to get on the fast-track to home business success.

Again, here they are in a nutshell:

1. Uncover what has already been created or invented, then implement or install. Don't reinvent the wheel.

2. Think like a business owner, not an employee. Delegate, hire or trade.

3. Model the processes of others who have already achieved the level of success you're seeking. They've already made the mistakes for you and know what works.

Incorporate these strategies and you will shave hours and dollars from your start-up curve and begin reaping the rewards faster than you ever thought possible.

want to let you know, this has been the greatest positive shot in the
arm for me since I started my online business as an affiliate. Some two

The Purpose Driven Business

I’d like to start this article off with a question. What’s the purpose of a business? Or, perhaps more specifically, what’s the purpose of your business? Do you ever think about that throughout the course of the day? Or, does it only haunt you at night or when you are trying to clear a jam in the copier?

Ten years ago I would have gone with Peter Drucker’s answer – The purpose of a business is to create a customer. Today, after 25 years of business ownership and asking several hundred small business owners this very question, I would have to say that the real purpose of a business is to give the owner of that business more life, more freedom.

In all my years though, I have never had a small business owner give me that answer. Many business owners instinctively go into business with the goal of achieving something that fulfills their dreams, but the making it, fixing it, shipping it quickly consumes. The phone rings and business owner reacts without thought to the demand on the other end.

At some point this wonderful vision of freedom and expression that you had for you business became just the opposite--The monster that methodically took the life right out of you. Has anyone come to realize that your business can rob you of your life it you are willing to let it?

So, what’s the answer?

I think the answer to this puzzle comes down to two things – focus and connection.

Focus involves a discovery, or at least rediscovery, of what you want most out of your life. That knowledge then must become the focus of your thoughts and the basis for your business decision-making. See, unless you know and focus on what more life and more freedom really means to you and only you then you will never be able to go about building a business that delivers it.

Connection is the systematic application of your purpose in life to the day-to-day function of your business. There has been so much written about the need to “leave one’s business behind at the end of the day” and I think that’s part of the problem. As I’m sure you’ve discovered, you can’t leave it so all you do is wrestle with it. Better to find a way to connect your business to your life. Now, in some cases, that may mean making dramatic changes in the way you go about your business, what your business does and who your business serves.

I can’t give you all the answers to life’s most persistent questions in the span of this article, but I can tell you this – Wake up or else. I’m not going to dwell on the “or else” as I suspect you may have already experienced it in some fashion.

I will however leave you with this paraphrased thought from an Ogden Nash poem titled “Portrait Of An Artist As Prematurely Old Man” – Most of will regret our sins of omission, the things we didn’t’ do, far more than the sins of commission, the things we did do. See the full text here.

Thinking Like A Winner

After studying the research done in cognitive psychology over the last 25 years, I’ve come to a simple conclusion: The degree to which you feel in control of your life will largely determine your level of mental well-being, your peace of mind, your happiness and the quality of your interactions with people. Cognitive psychologists call this a “sense of control.” It is the foundation of happiness and high achievement. And the only thing in the world over which you have complete control is the content of your conscious mind. If you decide to exert that control and keep your mind on what you want, even when you are surrounded by difficult circumstances, your future potential will be unlimited.

Your aim should be to work on yourself and your thinking until you reach the point where you absolutely, positively believe yourself to be a total winner in anything you sincerely want to accomplish. When you reach the point where you feel unshakable confidence in yourself and your abilities, nothing will be able to stop you. And this state of self-confidence comes from, first, understanding the functioning of your remarkable mind and, second, practicing the techniques of mental fitness over and over, until you become a completely optimistic, cheerful and positive person.

Italian psychologist Dr. Roberto Assagioli left us two remarkable pieces of writing, Psychosynthesis and The Act of Will. In those books, Assagioli brought his remarkable intelligence to bear on the entire subject of human potential and human happiness. He studied the mind and personality for his entire lifetime, and he came up with several ideas that are profoundly simple and powerfully effective in helping you and me to lead happier, more satisfying lives. In The Act of Will, he laid out a series of psychological principles, or laws, that can be very helpful to you in understanding the way your mind works and how you can take control of it.

The third of Assagioli’s laws is that images or pictures, either from within or from the outside, will trigger thoughts and feelings consistent with them. In turn, those thoughts and feelings will trigger behaviors that lead to the realization of the pictures. For example, when you become absolutely convinced that you are a total winner and you are meant to be a complete success in anything that you really want to do, every picture or image that you see that somehow represents winning to you will trigger thoughts of what you could do to achieve that same state. The picture will also trigger the feeling of excitement that will motivate you to take action.

A friend of mine who was a sales manager had a simple technique to make new salespeople successful, and it worked in more than 90 percent of cases. When he hired a salesperson, he would take that person to a nearby Cadillac dealership and force the person to trade in his current car on a new Cadillac. The payments on the Cadillac would be substantially more than the new salesperson had ever imagined paying, and he would strongly resist getting into the commitment. However, the sales manager would insist until, finally, the salesperson bought the new Cadillac and drove it home.

No matter how unsure or insecure the salesperson felt, when his spouse and friends saw the new Cadillac and he experienced the pleasure of driving it down the street, he began to think about himself and to see himself as a big success selling his product. And in almost all cases, it turned out to be true. Those salespeople went on to become great successes in their field.

Take every opportunity you can to surround yourself with images of what success means to you: Get brochures on new cars; get magazines containing pictures of beautiful homes, beautiful clothes and other things that you could obtain as a result of achieving the success that you are aiming for. Each time you see or visualize those images, you trigger the thoughts, feelings and actions that make them materialize in your life.

Assagioli’s fourth law is that thoughts, feelings and images trigger the words and actions consistent with them. This is another way of saying that your inner impressions will motivate you to pursue the outer activities that will move you toward the achievement of your goals.

Assagioli’s fifth law is that your actions will trigger thoughts, emotions and images consistent with them. That has been referred to as the Law of Reversibility. It is one of the most important success principles ever discovered.

Simply, that law says that you are more likely to act yourself into feeling than you are to feel yourself into acting. On many days, you wake up feeling not as positive and optimistic as you would like. However, if you act as if you already have the feeling that you desire, the action itself will trigger the feelings and the thoughts and mental pictures consistent with them.

In her book Wake Up and Live, Dorothea Brande said that the most important success secret she ever discovered was this: “Act as if it were impossible to fail, and it shall be.”

In the book, she goes on to explain that you need to be very clear about the success that you desire, and then simply act as if you already had it. Act as if your success were inevitable. Act as if your achievement were guaranteed. Act as if there were no possibility of failure.

The wonderful thing is this: You can control your actions easier than you can control your feelings. If you choose to exert control over your actions, those actions will have a “back flow” effect and trigger the feelings, thoughts and images that are consistent with those of the person you want to be, of the person who lives the life you want to live.

There is a principle called the Law of Expression, which says that whatever is expressed is impressed. This means that whatever you say, whatever you express to another in your conversation, is impressed into your subconscious mind.

The reverse of this law is that whatever is impressed will, in turn, be expressed. It will come out. Your conversation reveals an enormous amount about you, the kind of person you are and the things that you believe about yourself and others.

In identifying those laws, one of the most important facts I discovered is that your brain is a multisensory, multistimulated, extremely complex, interactive organ. Everything that you think, imagine, say, do or feel triggers everything else, like a chain reaction, or like a series of electrical impulses going out in all directions and turning on lights everywhere.

Let’s say that you are driving down the street, listening to the radio and thinking about a variety of things. Suddenly, you hear a song that you associate with an old romance that you had many years before. Instantaneously, your brain reacts and re-creates all the sensations that were present when you were with that person a long time ago. You instantly get a mental picture of the person. You see and remember where you were and what you were doing when the song was playing back then. You feel the emotion that you experienced at that time. You recall what was going on around you-the sounds, the season, the lights, the people and the activities. You temporarily forget whatever you were thinking about and are transported, in a split second, back across the years. Sometimes, the emotion that you recall is so intense that it brings you close to tears or fills you with happiness.

That is the way your mind works. By understanding that, you can make your mind work for you as a powerful engine of growth and development. You can consciously surround yourself with a series of sensory inputs that bombard you with messages and cause you to think and feel like a total winner.

Thinking like a winner is the first step to living like a winner. You do become what you think about most of the time. You are not what you think you are; but what you think, you are. In fact, you are what you most intensely believe. And if you think like a winner and do the things that winners do to keep their minds positive and optimistic, you will be a winner.

I have just started reading a book by Brain Tracy called, “Getting Rich Your Own Way.” In it he has a section called, “Five Ways to Stay Poor.” Several of these reasons have applied directly to me at one time or another and I would like to share them with you.

1.It never occurs to a person that they can become wealthy.

2.If it does occur to them, they never decide to become wealthy.

3.If they do decide to do something to improve their financial lives, they procrastinate, sometimes all their lives.

4.They can’t delay gratification, to resist spending everything they earn and a little bit more besides.

It's a Marathon And Not A Sprint!

One of the reasons I simply love being involved with Success University is my upline. Here is a message I got from Daegan Smith.

I was listening to one of my favorite marketing mentors in
the car earlier today and he reminded me of a very important
fact about business.

It applies doubly so to online business.

What this mentor said was that success is a marathon and not
a sprint.

I know we all know this, but sometimes it's important to
remember it and to really take it to heart in all that we do
. . . especially in today's fast paced world.

We want everything here and now.

Instant gratification is the name of the game.

And so that is how thing are sold to us . . . Especially on
the Internet.

We get bombarded by messages that tell use that this or that
is the instant solution to whatever problem we need to
solve.

The reason why is . . . it WORKS!

It gets us to take action and buy.

This is good in the sense that we can use this to our

with their will be WORK involved.

I've bought and tried just about anything and everything
online that promises to help me make money quickly and guess
what?

Why, you ask? Because it's free and many free classified sites get thousands of hits per day. Most have search capability, which means you have a good change at someone seeing your ads. Many webmasters have used them continuously with great success. Most marketing experts and marketing E-books recommend placing free classifieds daily.

Why daily? Because most free classified sites will place new ads on top, which means in a day or so, your ad will get pushed down. Also, most free classifieds sites will generate a new page for your new ad, which allows for search engine bots to index your ad making it more visible to the public. Can you image your exposure by placing one ad each day to 10 or more "free classifieds"? sites? It is also worth noting that free classifieds enable you to attract targeted visits, which we all know is the best visit to get.

In order for you to get the most exposure, you must write quality ad copy. Treat your ad like it is an Ezine article, just not as long. Remember to use as many keywords as you can in the ad title as well as in the ad body. By doing this you will better your chances of getting selected by the site search and by someone searching from the Internet.

Don't try to make a hard sale from your ad, instead give enough information in order to entice the person to visit your site. Your site is where you have space to provide all of your product's detail information.

Network marketing is not easy. I will not lie. But, in
saying that there is a little known way to absolutely ensure
your success.

This secret is seldom used yet for those that do hold true
to the principle that I am about to outline you simple
cannot fail. That's right your success is 100% guaranteed.

Before we get to the secret let's do a little ground work to
set the stage for HUGE and quick success in network
marketing.

The level of success and freedom in life that network
marketing offers to the average person is unlimited and
that's the appeal, but there are some ways to help ensure
that success occurs for you as quickly as possible.

Most people jump into a new home business on a hope and
dream.

They look at the compensation plan and the testimonials
involved with the network marketing company that they are
about to join and see the vision.

They say "Man . IF I max out this plan I'll be making
$40,000 a month and I'll never have to work again! Let's
give it try!"

They fill themselves up with anticipation for the windfall
of cash that is on the way and they sit back and wait for
the money to come to them.

Then a month later after they go through a few trails and
try a few things unsuccessfully they say . . . "Why isn't
this working?"

Then the next month when they put in half the effort they
put in their first month and nothing happens again they quit
and say they were scammed.

My question to you is . . . were they scammed?

You see, before you start any Network Marketing business you
have to do a little bit more homework than just look at the
compensation plan and the testimonials. You have to really
research what you are about to get yourself into.

What type of research do you have to do? What questions
should you ask?

Here they are:

" How long has the company been around?

" What is the product?

" Is the product unique?

" Does the product have mass appeal?

" Is the product a front runner in an emerging market?

" Can you become passionate about the product?

" Does the business have a powerful marketing system in
place?

" Who are the successful people in this business?

" What are the successful people doing to create that
success?

" Is the product something that the majority of the public
can afford?

" Am I personally financial stable enough to start a new
business?

" What type of a monthly marketing budget will I have to set
aside to be successful?

" What are the conversion statistics for the marketing
process?

" Is the business truly duplicable?

" What would be my break even point?

" Is there a way to make money quickly with this business or
is there a way that I can create a quick income in marketing
this business?

" Etc.

You see it's not just the opportunity that has to be
correct. You TOO have to be correct for the opportunity and
you have to be in a financial position to take advantage of
the opportunity at hand.

Way too many times I see people joining my business that
jump in on a hope and a dream.

They have barely enough money to pay for there monthly
membership commitment and yet they still want to know the
fastest way to grow their business FREE.

When people get caught up in the emotion of opening the
possibility for more in their life sometimes they don't
think clearly. They think if they can just get themselves in
they will get rich.

It's not just about getting yourself in.

It's about getting yourself in and putting yourself in a
position to be able to fully maximize the opportunity at
hand.

I get asked the following WRONG question all the time.

"How long until I make money?"

It's not about how long until you make money it's about what
you have to do to make money.

The truth is you could put yourself in a profitable
situation tomorrow or today, but it would take resources and
a good deal of learning to know how to do it.

The truth is. The fast way is never the FREE way. It's
either going to take you a good deal of money to put
yourself in a profitable position or a good deal of
education, and most of the time both.

There is no luck factor.

You don't earn money until you are worth of the income you
produce. As the great Earl Nightingale always says "You have
to be worth more than you are getting paid for your income
to grow."

This is the natural state of all things and it's not going
to change. In order for your income to grow you must grow.

Now . . .

Let me back up for a second to say that you CAN create a
large amount of success in Network Marketing for free, but
not until you know how.

If you don't have the answer to this question of how to
create a large amount of success for free now and it is a
burning desire for you learn how to do this, then get out
there and do the necessary leg work and research to get
yourself into to the position in which you can grow your
network marketing organization for FREE.

quickly you will need to of course obtain or create a

Change the word "IF" to "WHEN"

the research that I've noted above and then say to
themselves that it's only a matter of time until they max
out their compensation plan that truly and always without a
shadow of a doubt succeed.

Network marketing is not something that works part of the
time or if your lucky. It always works as long as you do
everything in your power to make it work.

Improving the Link Popularity of your site

What is important is not only the number of links to your site, but also the types of sites which are linking to you. A link from a site which is related to yours is more valuable than a link from an unrelated site.

In this article, I explore different methods by which you can improve the link popularity of your site. I start with a method that you shouldn't bother using, then go on to the moderately effective methods, and then end with the most effective methods you can use to boost the link popularity of your site.

1) Submitting your site to Free For All (FFA) pages

A common misconception among many Internet marketers is that while FFA pages may not directly bring in traffic to your site, it will help to improve the link popularity of your site, and hence, will indirectly bring in traffic through the search engines.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Most FFA pages can contain only a certain number of links at a time. This means that when you submit your site to a FFA page, your site will be placed at the top of the page. However, as more and more people submit their sites to the FFA page, your site will be pushed down, and finally, when it reaches the bottom of the page, it will be removed.

Now, since you can bet that plenty of other people are also submitting their sites to the FFA pages, your site will remain in these pages for only a short span of time. Hence, in order to ensure that the search engines see your site if and when they come to spider the FFA page, you will need to ensure that you submit your site to these FFA pages on a regular basis - at least once a week.

Even if you used an automatic submission program to do it, can you imagine a worse way to spend your time and/or money? Furthermore, many search engines recognize these pages which only contains links to other sites as FFA pages and may completely ignore them. And while I haven't yet seen any evidence that submitting to the FFA pages will actually penalize your site, there is every possibility that this might happen in the future.

Hence, when it comes to FFA pages, my advice is simple: don't even think about them.

2) Starting an Awards Program

A moderately effective method of improving the link popularity of your site is to start an awards program. You can have web sites which are related to yours apply for an award from your site. The sites which win the award get the chance to display the logo for your award. This logo is linked to your site, preferably to a page which contains more information on the award.

If you publish a newsletter, consider declaring the winners in your newsletter. You can also perform a review of the winners' sites in your newsletter. This adds useful content to your newsletter and also gives more webmasters the incentive to apply for your award, since you may review their sites in your newsletter. This also gives them the incentive to subscribe to your newsletter to see if they win the award.

Make sure that you give awards to only those sites which deserve to win. If you give your award to sites which don't deserve it, your award will have little credibility, which will, in turn, hurt the credibility of your company. Furthermore, make sure that the logo you design for the award looks professional. If it doesn't, not many webmasters will want to display it in their sites.

3) Giving testimonials

This may sound a bit unusual, but giving testimonials for products or services which you find useful can be another moderately effective way of improving the link popularity of your site. If you really like a product, simply write to the company and tell them why you liked the product so much and how it has helped you. Chances are, the company will write back to you to thank you for your comments and will ask you for permission to display your comments in their web site. Tell the company that you have no problems if they publish your comments, but request them to add a link to your site along with the testimonial. There is every possibility that the company will agree since publishing the URL of your web site gives more credibility to the testimonial.

Of course, please don't go about giving testimonials to every company you can locate just because it will improve your link popularity :-)

5) Starting a Link Contest

A good method of improving the link popularity of your site is to give away prizes to other webmasters if they link to you. The prizes that you give out should ideally be something which other webmasters will find valuable enough to want to link to you, but which do not cost you too much. For instance, if you publish a newsletter, and have unsold ad inventory, you can give away some free advertisements in your newsletter to the winners. If you sell a software (or an ebook), you can give away a free copy of your software or ebook to the winners, since it doesn't cost you anything to produce an additional copy of digital goods like software and ebooks.

Link contests work best if you run the contest on a continuous basis and if you declare new winners frequently. If you run the contest for a few months, and then stop it, the webmasters who had linked to you will all remove their links. However, if you run it on a continuous basis, and declare new winners every month or so, the webmasters will have the incentive to keep their links to your site.

6) Writing articles and allowing them to be re-published

This is by far one of the best ways of improving the link popularity of your site, and one of my favorites. Whenever I write an article on search engine placement, I first publish it in my newsletter and then I publish the article in my site as a separate web page. I also submit it to the following article submission sites:

http://certificate.net/wwio/ideas.shtml

http://www.web-source.net/articlesub.htm

Many webmasters and ezine publishers frequent these article directories in search of articles. Submitting my articles to these directories gives them the opportunity of re-publishing my articles. While I have had some success with each of the above directories, by far the best among them is the ezinearticles.com directory.

Now, at the end of each article, I mention that people are free to re-publish the article as long as they include my resource box (i.e. my bio) at the end of the article. I always include the URL of my site in the resource box. This means that whenever someone publishes one of my articles in his/her web site, I have another site linking to my site. Also, many ezine publishers archive their ezines in their web sites. If they have re-published my article in a particular issue, I again get a link.

Writing articles is also an excellent viral marketing tool. As some webmasters and ezine publishers publish my articles, other webmasters and ezine publishers will read my article. Some of them, in turn, will publish my article, which will again be read by other webmasters and ezine publishers, some of whom will publish it... and so on.

Also, since only web sites related to mine would be interested in publishing my articles, all these links tend to come from related sites, which, as I mentioned earlier, are more valuable than links from unrelated sites.

Writing articles, of course, has another very important benefit - if you write good articles, it makes you known as an expert in your field. This helps to improve your credibility, which makes people more comfortable about buying your products or services.

Some notes about writing articles:

i) I have learnt through experience that some webmasters will publish other people's articles and will display the complete resource box but will not link to the URL mentioned in the resource box. In order to prevent this, you need to explicitly state that the article can be published only if the URL mentioned in the resource box is linked to your site.

ii) Your resource box should not be too long - it should be no more than 6 lines long, formatted at 65 characters per line. Otherwise, other webmasters and ezine publishers will hesitate to publish your article.

What Matters in Attracting People to Your Home Business

I will assume most people reading this article have a home business and are engaged in some sort of product based opportunity. This may apply to you if you are not, but let?s assume you are selling or offering an opportunity that involves a product. The primary way your home business will grow is by attracting more people to your products or opportunity.

There are several steps to business growth in between the steps of advertising and adding a customer. A savvy home business person is always on the lookout for potential customers. Many are also advertising in some fashion. Once you have someone who is showing interest in your opportunity or product, if you would like to see that person become a home business builder themselves, then they need to see a compelling reason why they should pursue it.

Yes, a quality product and company are necessary. Yes, a good presentation is also necessary?.unless there is something so irresistible that people are drawn to you.

In a previous article on home business, I discussed how to talk to people about your business and emphasized the point that you should come across as the opposite of needy. I think it is necessary to state it differently here.

There should be a clear sense in you that you are "radiating" a sense of where you are going with this opportunity. Let me clearly state that it is much more important where you are going than where you have been! It works both ways.

If you are new to home business or have previous bad experience, you must get to the place in your belief where you know for sure where you are going. You can overcome much reluctance in people with your confidence.

Believe it or not, it also works from the other end. A friend of mine that has had seven figure success in home business said he was in a slump a while back and couldn?t figure it out. It dawned on him that he was focused on where he was and what he had already accomplished! When he changed his focus to his new set of goals and where he was going in the future, people were once again attracted to him.

It seems strange that someone with phenomenal success in home business could be hampered by a lack of looking ahead, but it really happened. This is one of the hallmarks of leadership ? people follow you when they have a clear sense of where you are going.

This can take the form of either concrete goals in terms of sales volume or income, or it can take the form of personal goals you have such as a vacation home in the mountains. I personally recommend that it be tied in with your ?why? of your home business in the first place.

A powerful compelling why coupled with concrete goals or milestones will make you and your home business attractive and unstoppable!

Making Your Site Search Engine Friendly

"Website analysis" - sounds complicated doesn't it? Even
though it is an on-going, and sometimes in-depth process,
you don't have to be an expert to make a BIG difference in
your site's search engine rankings. Here are some tips to
make your site search engine friendly.

The first thing to find out is if your site has been
indexed or not. Is it in a search engine or directory?

The most important place to check is Google. Simply go to
www.google.com and type your domain into the search box.
Google will return the home page for your site if they are
aware of it. Make sure all your pages are indexed and not
just the home page.

If nothing is returned for search results-don't panic!
Double check spelling and typing to make sure you've
entered your domain name properly. If there are still no
results, Goggle doesn't know about your website.

Repeat this process for any other search engine that you
want to make sure has your site indexed. The three other
key search systems important to check are: The Open
Directory Project, Yahoo and MSN.

Next, you have to decide if you want to pay for registering
your site in the Yahoo Directory or not. This is a personal
choice. Do your own research and make up your own mind.
The only way to get in the Yahoo Directory is to pay.

The Open Directory Project is free but usually takes some
perseverance and patience in order to get registered. Go
to www.dmoz.org and follow the directions. Wait six to
eight weeks and if your site doesn't appear, try again.

There are usually three reasons why your site is not being
indexed by a search engine. First, they simply may not
have found your site yet. Second, your site may be almost
invisible to the "bots" (a.k.a. search engine robots).
Third, they may be able to find your site, but when they
get there, they can't read it.

Questions to get answered if you think your site is
invisible are: 1) Are my keywords relevant? 2) Is the
site created "on the go" when a browser requests it? (Some
call this a dynamic site). 3) Am I using frames? This is a
no no! 4) Are my title and descriptions tags aligned with
the content? 5) Was my site created using Java Script?
(The search engines ignore Java Script) 6) Does my site
have really relevant content, especially on the first page?

Don't be overwhelmed if this sounds like a lot of work and
a little complicated, it really isn't. But it is a good
place to start. In future articles I will detail each of
these areas more specifically. For now you have enough
homework to get started. Go find out if your site is
indexed and if it isn't start with registering in the Open
Directory Project and the Yahoo Directory (if you want to
pay).

Other major ones engines like Google may not be so easy.
Asking the search engines to come to your site probably
won't work and the problem with paying is that you are
paying. I will also address these issues in the future.

Remember, Organic Marketing takes more time and a little
more effort but your site earns its relevancy naturally and
your wallet stays in your pocket.

methods however, come with a price-tag. For starters, you

ideas will definitely require dedication and perseverance

These joint ventures or "JV's" can take-on many different
forms. Some are as simple as promoting each other's
newsletters, while others may be more complex partnerships
with cross-promoting of complimentary products. Some JV's
even involve starting entirely new projects from scratch.

Joint Ventures are a powerful tool for expanding business
in many areas. So, what is stopping 'you' from using this
technique to expand your business?

For many new marketers, starting a JV can be a frightening
task, especially when it comes to contacting other
marketers. Too often, many marketers appear to be
"spamming," when they are really just seeking other JV
partners. Here are some tips that may help you along the
way:

1. Get to know your potential JV partners.

If you start emailing everyone on your list of potential
partners, chances are you will be considered a common
spammer. You won't get the partners you want, or even
worse, may destroy your reputation in the process.

Instead, subscribe to your potential partner's newsletter
and check out their websites and blog. Get to know them a
little bit before approaching them with a proposal.

2. Go slowly when approaching potential partners.

Let's face it, everyone likes a little flattery. When
contacting your potential JV partner, treat them like your
"first date." Be courteous and complimentary. Tell them the
things you like about their business. Join their newsletter
and tell them you think it is awesome, and why. You will be
surprised at how much attention you receive by using a
little well placed flattery as you proceed to develop your
relationships with potential JV partners.

3. Your financial estimates should always be realistic.

Don't promise what you can't deliver. Be honest with your
potential partners. Explain your proposal and benefits in
realistic terms, but don't hype. Be honest, open and
sincere.

Getting a Joint Venture off the ground doesn't have to be
scary if you start by following the three simple steps
given above.

Fear of the unknown and doubting ones ability to achieve success have stopped many good people from achieving their goals.

If we could see the future, we all would be rich. Our liveswould be almost mistake free and we would have very few problems. But, alas, we can't see what will happen down the road. It's this fear of the unknown that has held many people backin many areas of their lives, especially in the area ofstarting their own business, particularly a work at homebusiness. I realize there are many scams out there but there are also many legitimate ones that you can make money with and the negative mindset has stopped many people from even trying.

Many people see themselves as failing before they evenstart. They see themselves as not having the time, money,or know-how to make their own business work. They see what they "think" should or will happen. They are also influenced by others who tell them they can't do it. The basis ofwhat they see is a mindset - one that says,"Others cansucceed in this but I can't." So you see, people don'tstart their own work at home businesses not because they don't have the time, money, or know-how. They don't startbecause they have a negative mindset. They simplybelieve that it won't work for them. They feel they arecursed to failure, cursed to live week to week, cursedto always work for somebody else, cursed to working40 or more hours a week, for 40 years, and hope they willhave enough money to survive, much less do anythingelse.

So, how do you change this mindset? Well, it isn't easy.All of our lives, we have been told that, "You can't do that" by friends and family. We have been programmed tothink negatively. Reprogram your mind by flushing out thenegative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones. I am not talking about some magical or mystical formula here. Although volumes of books have been written on thesubject, here a couple of simple tips. First, try to surround yourself with positive people and avoid, as bestas you can, the negative folks. Begin to read books writtenby motivational speakers such as Napoleon Hill, Jim Rohn, Dale Carnegie, and others that deal with thinking the right way and sit in on seminars and teleconferences that deal withchanging the way you think. Their are even work at home opportunities whose sole basis is showing people how to be successful by changing the way they think.

It won't happen overnight but eventually you start to seeyourself thinking in a different light. The "I can't" will become "I can." You will stop doubting yourself. You will begin to see that you can do it.You willstep out and do things you thought you would never do. In closing, let me share a quote with you from Napoleon Hill.

"Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve."
